'Harbour History' depicts the 'Lord Hartington' being warped out of West Bay harbour, Bridport, Dorset by the harbour master and staff. 'Lord Hartington' was one of a group of vessels of the 'Lord' class. Built to similar lines of a barge with ketch rigging. There were a total of nine built. The first batch of the class built by J and W.B.Harvey at their yard in Littlehampton. 'Lord Hartington'and the others at the yard of G.P.Gildea and Co. of Ipswich.

'Lord Hartington' was built in 1887. Gross tonnage 87 and owned by J.H.Sankey and Son, Canning Town, Essex. 'Lord Hartington' visited West Bay harbour five times in the 1920's. Two other members of the class also came into the port. 'Lord Hamilton' being the earliest in July 1907 with a cargo of agricultural oilcake for cattle feed. 'Lord Beresford' docked on June 11th 1911, light to load grit from the beach to London. Most of the class had all gone by 1932.
