'HARBOUR MORNING' © Robert Dennis
36in x 24in Oil on Canvas.

'Harbour Morning ' depicts the ketch 'Richard Boston' morred in West Bay harbour, Bridport, Dorset. Harbour records held at Bridport Museum archive record her registered tonnage as 49 tons. Under her master, a Mr Burkhill, she sailed into West Bay with a cargo of coal from Hull on May 27th 1900. She later sailed with a load of sand to London on June 12th 1900
This view of West Bay harbour today looks much the same with Pier Terrace built by Edward Prior in 1887 and the now extended Bridport Arms Hotel still in use as it was intended in 1900.
West Bay today is now a very busy fishing and leisure harbour. The last recorded cargo vessel unloading timber was in 1978.
